Strange thing about the sense of smell

Have you ever noticed that when you smell something, you also get a clue of weather the stuff is sweet or sour. Well, I guess this is an assistance of past experience or maybe we can never tell.

Recently, I took a ripe seed of a garden palm in had. As I smelt it, I felt that it could be sweet. i had never seen it before and had nobody to consult. I was curious to find out if my sense of taste through smell was right. i did not know if it could harm, yet I wanted to taste. And when I did taste, it did taste sweet!
