Interesting Facts about canonized Saints

1. St. John Mary Vianney

He was an image worshiper. It's interesting that though he disregarded the 2nd commandment he was declared a saint by Pope Pius XI on May 31, 1925. He is the patron of pastors especially of diocesan priests. The saint was academically a poor performer non-the-less  he was probably a very influential man in bringing people to into religious believes.

2. St. Thomas More

Married twice in his life. I wonder what keeps the RC clergy today from not marrying. He is not credited with any miracles before/after his death. It was not probably a requirement then. He is a saint because of his martyrdom.

3. St. Agnes

She supposedly died a martyr at the age of 12 or 13. However, the stories of her martyrdom date from 5th century about 100 years after her death. Thus not much is know about her life and yet she is a saint.

4. St. Maria Goretti

She was also 12 on July 5, 1902, when she was stabbed 14 times by Alessandro, the guy who tried to defile her. She had wounds on her throat, lungs and the diaphragm. She forgives the murderer and pray that he reaches heaven when he dies. she dies the following day. Even Maria's mom forgives him. Alessandro was even present on the Canonization of Maria on June 24, 1950 by Pope Pius XII.
