Elections Dramas in India
Life in India is sometimes about cheap political melodrama. In the
wake of winning votes rules and laws can be twisted at will. With the intention
(or so called intention) of tracking the sale of LPG cylinders and to stop sale
to unauthorized persons cylinder subsides we given to the customers in their
bank accounts. Thus at point of sale, the customer would pay a hefty amount and
would later be reimbursed the excess over the subsidized amount into their bank
accounts through electronic transfer. Thus an additional record is created for
sale helping to track it better.
The government probably had many thoughts in mind.
1. The huge money coming into the banks would give them a huge
interest until the money is returned.
2. Delay the payment a bit for unaccountable reasons and then make
more money as interest.
3. Not reimburse at all and make way for other scams. Oh yes by its
trends these cunning ideas seems to be always in it minds.
Governments cannot be far incompetent as the once we have in
India. Rather than supplying people with what they need, they struggle dealing
with shortages. Then rules bent to exploit shortage scenarios to plant a scam
in a service. After a long gap there's no track of how much money has been
looted. Now rules are implemented to bring back organisations to track that
have gone into big losses due to corruption. These rules open up new scopes for
corruption and the countrymen continue to live with struggle for
resources.
And now as elections have approached the need to make excess
payments at the point of sale has been stopped. Now the customer needs to pay
only Rs. 435 for a cylinder instead of the Rs. 1100 which included the subsidy
returned through banks. The educated-ignorant Indians are happy that they need
to pay less. However, the ignorant-educated also know that the rules would
return soon after the elections. Will the over-smart political class stop
playing cheap games? Well it's India and not much has changed post-independence.
